today clarified that there has been no change in the language policy of
the state government which is governed by the provisions of Assam
Official Language Act, 1960.
<br><br> The government said that Assamese shall be used for "official
purposes of the state at the state secretariat and the offices of the
Heads of the Departments".
<br><br> The government order said that "Bengali language shall be used
for administrative and other official purposes up to district level in
Cachar district".
<br><br> Assam government on September nine had withdrawn Assamese as
the official language of the Barak valley which had created confusion in
the other areas of the state.</p>
