and Participatory Development Initiatives (PDI) is organizing two day
International Conference on Brahui Language and Culture on January 17-18, 2015
in Islamabad, Pakistan. Leading scholars and researchers from Pakistan and
abroad would present their papers on Brahui language and culture and would
present their suggestions on how to preserve and revive this ancient Dravidian
language of Pakistan. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:'Times New Roman',serif"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:'Times New Roman',serif">Brahui is one of the ancient languages of Asia, being spoken by
about 9 million people in Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan. Brahui is the only
7000 years old proto Dravidian language in Pakistan. <i>Harapa</i>, <i>Mehr
Garh</i> and <i>Mohan Jo Daro</i> are the oldest civilizations where Brahui was
probably spoken before the arrival of Aryans in the subcontinent. <b> </b>However, a</span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:'Times New Roman',serif">ccording to a warning issued by UNESCO in 2009 Brahui is endangered
language under the threat of the extinction. </span><b><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:'Times New Roman',serif"></span></b></p>
