The Afrikaans parents and the Gauteng Education
Department are in court today battling over the department’s decision to
convert single Medium Afrikaans schools to parallel.

Fedsa made an urgent application last week to
stop Gauteng education MEC Panyanza Lesufi from “Interfering with
schools’ language policy”. The application was made after the education
department announced that 124 Afrikaans schools would be converted to
parallel medium schools.

The department justified the move, saying it was due to the increasing demand for space in Gauteng schools.

However, Fedsa chief executive says the increase in demand for
schools on one hand and capacity in the form of available space at all
in the province could not have been quantified before the admission
process has been finalised and empirical data obtained.

The case is still underway.

http://citizen.co.za/390457/fedsa-vs-lesufi-over-schools-language-policy/

--

**************************************
N.b.: Listing on the lgpolicy-list is merely intended as a service to its members
and implies neither approval, confirmation nor agreement by the owner or sponsor of the list as to the veracity of a message's contents.
