contribute to the research, teaching, and service in the program and
department. Located in the culturally diverse cities of Minneapolis and Saint

<p><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%">The Twin Cities
offer a vibrant and rich environment for second language education research and
teaching. Schools and communities have a wide range of innovative ESL programs
serving our many and varied minority language communities. Minnesota also has a
strong history of offering strong school-based world language education
programs, and the state boasts 90+ language immersion and bilingual programs in
8 languages serving both majority and minority language students as well as
indigenous language learners.</span></p>

<p style="margin-top:8.0pt"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%">The Second Language Education (SLE) program is committed to
supporting outstanding language education for all students. The individual will
work with pre-service and in-service language teachers (in at least two of the
following areas: ESL, world language, immersion or bilingual education) as well
as Ph.D., M.A., and M.Ed. students in language education. Our graduates assume
leadership roles locally, nationally, and internationally as university faculty
members, educational leaders, policy makers, researchers, and teachers.</span></p>

<p style="margin-top:8.0pt"><b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%">Minimum Essential Qualifications:</span></b></p>

of and commitment to second language education across a range of fields (ESL,

earned doctorate in second language education, applied linguistics, or a

<p style="margin-top:10.0pt"><b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%">Research </span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%">(40%):  Articulate and implement a strong agenda of
basic and applied scholarship pertinent to second language education,
maintaining a commitment to securing external funds to support scholarly
inquiry. It is expected that the candidate will develop a strong record of

<p style="margin-top:8.0pt"><b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%">Teaching and Advising </span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%">(40%):  Contribute to the teaching and advising of
undergraduate minor, initial licensure students, and graduate students
(practicing teachers, M.A., M.Ed. and Ph.D. students) in the SLE program. The
individual will be expected to teach four courses per academic year with summer
teaching opportunities available.</span></p>

<p style="margin-top:10.0pt"><b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%">Service </span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%">(20%):  Make strong contributions to the ongoing
activities of the SLE program, the department, the College, and the University.
Participate in community service and/or other outreach and public engagement
activities and in the activities of relevant professional organizations.</span></p>

<p style="margin-top:8.0pt"><b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%">Appointment Details: </span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%">The individual hired will be
appointed to a full-time, 9-month position beginning August 2016. Salary is
competitive and commensurate with experience.</span></p>
