BENGALURU: Having received 1,500 applications to start new schools in
the state, the department of public instruction (DPI) has its hands
full. And 300 of them have come for schools in the city; Bengaluru South
and North zones accounting for 71 and 62 applications respectively . <br><br>
This year's number is nearly double when compared to 2014, when DPI
received 800 applications. A source in the department said the 2015
figure is the highest DPI has ever seen. After scrutinising 238 of the
1,500 applications, DPI has rejected 183.In Bengaluru North alone, 57
applications have been rejected. <br><br> Mansoor Ali Khan, secretary ,
Management of Independent CBSE Schools Association (MICSA), told TOI the
demand for schools in Bengaluru South and North is high as these areas
are growing. <br><br> In the northern part of the city, the requirement has shot up following the establishment of the international airport. <br><br>
Experts attributed the spike in applications to the Supreme Court's
thumbs down to the state's language policy, advocating the mother tongue
as mandatory medium of instruction."Private school managements were
hesitant to start new schools with the policy mandating Kannada as the
medium of instruction in primary school. With that barrier not existing,
there is s renewed interest," said an expert. <br><br> D Shashi Kumar,
general secretary, Karnataka Associated Managements of English Medium
Schools (KAMS), said: "In the past, not many managements were applying
because many existing private schools' applications for starting new
higher primary schools (class 6 and above) were rejected citing they
have violated the language policy. Since the issue is sorted out,
existing schools have started applying for new ones." <br><br> DPI first
invited applications from October 5 to 15, and then from November 3 to
19. The time has been extended till November 30. For the first time, DPI
is receiving applications online.Among Tier II cities, the highest
number of applications have come for schools in Mysuru. DPI has rejected
nine of the 18. <br><br> Stating that the increasing IT population is
among the reasons for the high demand in Bengaluru, K P Gopalakrishna,
chairman, National Public Schools, said: "The requirement in Mysuru is
going up because it is developing fast."<br><br><a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bengaluru/State-gets-record-no-of-applications-for-schools-this-yr/articleshow/49916720.cms">http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bengaluru/State-gets-record-no-of-applications-for-schools-this-yr/articleshow/49916720.cms</a><br></div></div></div></div></span><br clear="all"><br>-- <br><div class="gmail_signature">**************************************<br>N.b.: Listing on the lgpolicy-list is merely intended as a service to its members<br>and implies neither approval, confirmation nor agreement by the owner or sponsor of the list as to the veracity of a message's contents.
