Conradh is seeking support for its three
demands: a senior minister for the Irish language; a parliamentary
committee to monitor and hold to account those responsible for Irish
language policy; and a significant increase in funding to implement
language support and development measures in the Gaeltacht and across
the country.

Peter O'Connor, PRO of Conradh Guaire, said
that over 40 per cent of the population, 2 million people, have some
proficiency in Irish, while over 90 per cent support the revival or
preservation of the language, according to recent census and survey
data.

He said that on Tuesday nights,
over 50 people are attending the ten-week course of Irish classes run
by Conradh in association with Gorey Library. The sean-nós singing
workshop with Colm Brennan also continues on the same night. On Saturday
mornings, all are welcome along for a chat and coffee as Gaeilge at the
Loch gCarman Arms.

Conradh has also organised a series of events
for Seachtain na Gaeilge at the beginning of March. These include
sean-nós dancing, poetry readings, a film show as Gaeilge, a hill walk,
table quiz and children's events.

http://www.independent.ie/regionals/goreyguardian/news/conradh-wants-more-support-for-irish-language-34475658.html

--

**************************************
N.b.: Listing on the lgpolicy-list is merely intended as a service to its members
and implies neither approval, confirmation nor agreement by the owner or sponsor of the list as to the veracity of a message's contents.
