<div dir="ltr"><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:tahoma,sans-serif"><b>Chiricú Journal: Latina/o Literatures, Arts, and Cultures</b></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:tahoma,sans-serif"><div id="content"><div id="journalDescription"><p dir="ltr"><span><em>Chiricú Journal</em> (ISSN 0277-7223) is</span><span> a peer-reviewed electronic and print-on-demand journal published twice per year (fall and spring) by the <a title="Indiana University Press" href="http://www.iupress.indiana.edu/"><font color="#0066cc">Indiana University Press</font></a> in conjunction with the <a title="Latino Studies Program" href="http://www.indiana.edu/~latino/"><font color="#0066cc">Latino Studies Program</font></a> of IU. Submissions for publication are welcomed in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Submission deadlines are August 1 and February 1 each year. We seek academic articles on a wide variety of topics related to Latina/o literatures, arts, and cultures; solicited book and film reviews; interviews; editorials; and creative submissions of photography, fine arts, poetry, and short story.</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span>Click <a title="here" href="https://scholarworks.iu.edu/iupjournals/index.php/chiricu/pages/view/cfs"><font color="#0066cc">here</font></a> for our current call for submissions.<br></span></p></div><br><div id="additionalHomeContent"><h3>Call for Submissions</h3><h3><span style="font-size:small"><strong><strong>Serafín M. Coronel-Molina, Issue Editor</strong></strong></span></h3><p dir="ltr"><span style="font-size:small"><strong><strong></strong>**DEADLINE August 1, 2016**</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size:small"><em>Chiricú Journal: Latina/o Literatures, Arts, and Cultures </em>invites submissions for our Spring 2017 issue, “The Politics of Language.” This issue will explore language as an instrument of power, identity, and politics from multiple disciplinary perspectives. We welcome submissions that, collectively, convey the linguistic diversity of Latina/o communities in the United States or in transnational contexts involving the United States. Work may engage uses of Spanish, English, Portuguese, or Indigenous languages. Creative submissions may include short stories, poems, personal essays, and visual art. Critical article submissions may explore any facet of language in political, historical, literary, artistic, or cultural contexts. We particularly welcome work focusing on, but not limited to, the following themes:</span></p><ul><li><span style="font-size:small">adaptation, hybridity, and translanguaging</span></li><li><span style="font-size:small">cinema, theatre, visual arts, and graphic novels</span></li><li><span style="font-size:small">culture, ethnicity, power, and identity politics</span></li><li><span style="font-size:small">language ideologies, politics, policy, and regimes</span></li><li><span style="font-size:small">literature, folklore, and popular culture</span></li><li><span style="font-size:small">media, marketing, and social media</span></li><li><span style="font-size:small">minority language rights</span></li><li><span style="font-size:small">nationalism and transnationalism</span></li><li><span style="font-size:small">political effects of Spanish language</span></li><li><span style="font-size:small">politics and policy of multilingual and multicultural education</span></li><li><span style="font-size:small">politics of language diversity and change</span></li><li><span style="font-size:small">raciolinguistics and citizenship</span></li></ul><div><p><span style="font-size:small">Submissions may be in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. Translations into these languages from Indigenous languages are also encouraged.</span></p><p align="center" style="text-align:left"><span style="font-size:small;text-decoration:underline"><strong>Formatting Requirements</strong></span><strong>: </strong><span style="font-size:small">A</span><span style="font-size:small">ll submissions should be double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pt. font, including quotations, notes, and the bibliography, if applicable. Page numbers should be included in the upper right corner. <strong>Please choose 3-5 keywords to index your submission</strong>.</span></p></div><p dir="ltr"><span style="font-size:small"><strong>Feature articles and essays</strong> must be written in compliance with the most recent version of APA or MLA. The preferred length of articles is 6,000-10,000 words, including the bibliography and notes. Academic essays must include an abstract of 150-250 words.</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span style="font-size:small"><strong>Book and film reviews</strong> by solicitation only, should be 500-1,500 words. Exceptions will be considered for review essays.</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span style="font-size:small"><strong>Interviews</strong> may be up to 8,000 words in length.</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span style="font-size:small"><strong>Commentaries and editorials</strong> can be 1,000-2,000
