looking to apply research skills beyond linguistics. CRESR is a
research group that mainly does research to contract, for various
government and non-government organisations. They're very good but
it's not a typical 'academic' job, insofar as they mainly do
research guided by those contracts rather than entirely their own
ideas. There is still a lot of creativity and autonomy within
their work though, and in terms of 'impact' they are very strong.
Good that they're offering permanent work too.<br>

We are looking to appoint two new posts in the Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research (CRESR) at Sheffield Hallam University. We are open to applicants from a range of methodological or policy perspectives which fit with the portfolio of research projects undertaken by CRESR. Unlike many Universities we appoint research staff on permanent contracts and these posts offer a good opportunity for applicants wishing to begin or further develop their research career. The Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research (CRESR)<a class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="http://www4.shu.ac.uk/research/cresr/"><http://www4.shu.ac.uk/research/cresr/></a> is a leading UK policy research centre. The focus of our work is on issues of social and economic disadvantage as experienced by places and people. Our major research themes include housing, labour markets and welfare reform, regeneration and community, and the third sector. Overall, 81% of CRESR's research submitted to the Research Excellence Framework received 4 and 3 rating as world-leading and internationally excellent. The two new posts are:
Researcher/Research Fellow - Quantitative Research
Development And Society
Academic Grade 6/7 - £26,052 to £37,075 per annum dependent on experience
This post is intended to enhance the portfolio of quantitative research undertaken within CRESR and increase capacity to deliver research projects successfully and to deadlines. You will contribute to income generation through contract research for a range of funders including government agencies, research councils and charitable bodies.
You will be expected to be able to apply a range of quantitative analytical skills and knowledge which informs research design, collection and analysis of complex primary and secondary data and the delivery of findings to non-technical audiences. You will also be expected to make a significant contribution to CRESR's reputation for producing high quality academic publications, research impact and scholarship.
To be appointed at Research Fellow level we will also be looking for experience of managing small project teams and resources and you must have a developing academic profile in specialist area.

Senior / Principal Research Fellow

Academic Grade 8/9 - £38,183 to £57,674 per annum dependent on experience
As a Senior / Principal Research Fellow you will be responsible for delivering research projects to deadlines and producing high quality academic outputs. You will also be expected to make a substantial contribution to income generation through contract research.
You should have a strong academic reputation at national and or international level alongside a track record of income generation and published high quality research. You must have the ability influence, develop and motivate staff and have experience of developing research capability and research teams.
To be appointed at Principal Research Fellow level you must be able to demonstrate vision, creativity and drive to maximise research potential and effectively develop research and income generation strategies.
Applications are particularly welcome from individuals with expertise in housing and/ or public policy evaluation. However, we are also very happy to consider applications from those with skills that align with other areas of CRESR's work.
