 The State government is all set to issue an ordinance to implement its 
policy making Telugu language compulsory from the next academic year.</span><div style="line-height:100%"><br></div>

<span>It may be recalled here that the government decided to make 
learning Telugu language as a compulsory subject till Intermediate. 
According to sources, the government had contemplated bringing a law 
making the learning of Telugu language as a compulsory subject.  </span><div style="line-height:100%"><br></div>

<span>However, ahead of bringing the enactment, it has decided to 
promulgate an ordinance. A draft policy document had been prepared by 
the School Education Department (SED) and sent the same for the scrutiny

<span>Once the law department gives its node, it will be sent to obtain 
the ascent of Governor E S L Narasimhan for issuing an ordinance, the 
sources added. However, for people studying Urdu language as their 
mother tongue will be exempted from studying Telugu language as a 
compulsory subject.</span></div>
