<p>Members of the city Council overturned the decision of the last cadence, which<br>
gave the Russian language regional status. Voted for 33 of the 38<br>
representatives. Did not vote 3 members of the faction “opposition bloc” and one<br>
independent MP.</p>
<p>Recall that the Law of Ukraine on fundamentals of state language policy was adopted<br>
at a cadence of fugitive ex-President Viktor Yanukovych. It<br>
provided for the establishment of the official use of regional<br>
languages in the work of local authorities. In Kherson Russian<br>
language given this status on August 21, 2012. Then voted<br>
47 deputies of the local Council. The regional Council took a similar decision<br>
a little earlier, on August 17. It should be noted that the language issue has become<br>
subject to provocations by the aggressor. An interesting fact is<br>
what language other than Russian and other national minorities living on<br>
regions have not received the regional status.</p>

<p>On 28 February this year the constitutional court of Ukraine by its decision<br>
noted the action “language law”, declaring it unconstitutional.<br>
Therefore, the decision of deputies of the city Council is a highly technical and<br>
formal. The plenary session of the Kherson city Council appointed<br>
on 19 Oct.</p>
