Treaties were the<br></div><div dir="ltr">preferred instrument, accompanied by a range of executive orders and<br></div><div dir="ltr">congressional acts. Behind their tidy legal language and token payments lay<br></div><div dir="ltr">actual or threatened violence, or the use of debts or dire conditions, such<br></div><div dir="ltr">as starvation, to coerce signatures from Indigenous peoples and compel<br></div><div dir="ltr">relocation.<br></div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">[...]<br></div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">Primary and secondary schools, or K-12 schools, were the greatest<br></div><div dir="ltr">beneficiaries by far, followed by institutions of higher education. Indigenous languages add to the rich<br></div><div dir="ltr">tapestry of global cultural diversity. Indigenous languages add to the rich tapestry of global cultural diversity.
