Qualitative data analysis software?

Hello,

I was wondering whether anyone had ever tried any of the various
qualitative software packages (like nudist, ethnograph, hyperresearch,
etc.) for coding/categorizing languagey data.  I'm debating whether the
time it would take to learn such a program would pay off later, or if I'm
better off sticking with my own make-shift annotations in miscrosoft word.

I'd love to hear about anyone's experiences with these.
