CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, LONG BEACH
LECTURER OPENING

Position:  One year Full-Time Lecturer, with the possibility of a renewal
for a second year depending on budget and performance, in Applied
Anthropology.

Effective Date:  August 23, 2001

Minimum Qualification:
 M.A. in Anthropology at time of appointment specializing in applied
anthropology. Potential for effective teaching.  Ability to communicate
effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
 Ph.D or ABD in Anthropology or a closely related field with
specialization in applied anthropology.  Established track record as a
working applied anthropologist in the areas of medical, education, or
community applied work with experience in a nonacademic setting.
Successful program-development grant writing experience.  Strong commitment
to inclusive education.  Potential for teaching graduate and senior level
courses as needed.  Ability to work with on-site applied faculty to further
develop an applied program, to form community partnerships in the process,
and to successfully market the applied anthropology M.A. degree.  Potential
for effective participation in faculty governance.

Duties:
 Grant writing to support the further development of the Applied
Anthropology graduate program, both in terms of program development and
individual student support.  Supervise graduate students and serve on MA
thesis committees.  Teach six units (up to two classes) per semester.
Further develop the applied anthropology brochure, develop an applied
anthropology website, and otherwise market the applied anthropology degree;
for example, help to establish a network of internships and alumni jobs.
Further develop the applied anthropology curriculum in consultation with
on-site applied anthropology faculty.  Perform University and Community
Service.

Salary Range:  Commensurate with background and experience.  Probable range
from $45,000 to $55,000, depending on qualifications.

Curriculum Vitae or Resume, three letters of recommendation, official
transcript from terminal degree granting institution, and, if available,
teaching portfolio including teaching statement, course syllabi, and
teaching evaluation summaries. (Employment is contingent upon proof of the
legal right to work in the United States.  This proof must be provided
prior to employment.  An appointment is not final until proof is provided).
