Suggestion About _AN_ Announcements

Hi All

I just got my February 2002 _Anthropology News_ (_AN_) and (naturally)
flipped to the SLA Section News. This column contains a call for papers for
SALSA--the Symposium About Language and Society--for which the deadline for
abstracts was January 23.

Many of us know that the conference is an annual event and look for
announcements, get other reminders, and/or visit the website. But, the
information in _AN_ isn't too timely-helpful for those who might benefit
most from learning of SALSA in the first place. Is it possible to
'encourage' contributors to get such announcements to SLA editors in advance
of deadlines for abstracts? And would it perhaps be possible to set up and
maintain a Linganth calendar website? (I've noticed that another AAA Section
has such a page, which is out-of-date, so maybe this idea is too difficult
to implement given competing demands on volunteers' time.)
