There had been some discussion on this list about how to add the text
"[LINGANTH]" to the beginning of all messages sent by the list. Well, I
figured out how it can be done. I'm not sure who the list managers are,
but only they have the authority to make these changes. (That is
because this is a "majordomo" run list, and not a "listserv" run list.
Listserv offers the ability for each subscriber to set their
preferences individually.) The URL with the instructions is here:

-kerim

All messages should be addressed to:

majordomo at cc.rochester.edu

Installing a new Configuration file for your list

To modify an existing config file for a list (for instance you may have
decided to change your subscribe policy from open to closed), you first
need to obtain the current config file and make your modifications. You
then need to send back your newly edited config file to majordomo. When
you initially obtain the config file, majordomo will append some text
before the first line of the config file (the first line looking
something like this):
# The configuration file for a majordomo mailing list.

You need to make sure you delete any text BEFORE this line when you
send your new config back to majordomo. Here is a summary of the
procedure to install a new config file:

First send an email to majordomo with
config listname listpassword
in the message body. You should receivean email back which includes
your list' s config file. The first few lines mightlook something like

 >>>> config listname listpassword
These are the couple of lines you need to delete before sending back
your edited config to majordomo.

Make your changes accordingly. Once you are satisfied with your
changes, send an email off to majordomo with the following in the
message body:

newconfig listname listpassword

After this, you need to include the file you've just edited. Insert the
file beginning on a new line (for example just paste it in).

The last line of the majordomo config file should look similar to:

who_access = list
Anything after this should be deleted as it is not part of the config
file.

After the last line of the config file, you need to put
EOF
on a line by itself. This tells majordomo that this is the end of the
config file.If you have a signature file in your email software, you
should add
end
on a line by itself.

If there is something wrong with your config, majordomo will not accept
it. Instead you will receive the email back specifying where things
have gone a little wobbly. If all goes well, you will receive a
confirmation from majordomo that the config file was accepted.

Adding a subject prefix to outgoing messages

You can add a subject prefix to your list's messages so that
subscribers will see that a message has arrived from the list. To do
this, grab your config file and go down to the line that says:

subject_prefix =
After the equals sign, add in the prefix you want appended to every
message, for example

subject_prefix =[LIST]

This means that email messages from the list will have [LIST] at the
start of the subject header
