The American Studies program at the University of Virginia announces
a new
undergraduate program in American Cultures. In building this program,
we
are looking to hire tenure-track assistant professors who have
particular
expertise in the fields of African-American, Asian-American,
Hispanic-American, or Native-American Studies. Applicants may be
working in
anthropology, art, English, history, music, politics, religious
studies, or
sociology. Appointments will be joint ones and consist of half-time
teaching in one of these departments and half-time in the American
Studies
program. We are particularly interested in applicants who can
demonstrate
an energetic commitment to helping us build this new program, which
aims to
reach beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries and across the
College of
Arts and Sciences in order to help our undergraduates study, discuss,
and
understand many aspects and implications of ethnicity. The positions
will
remain open until filled, but to ensure consideration applicants
should
