Does anyone know how the word "mensa", derived from the Latin word table, I believe, came to have the meaning of "stupid" in Spanish?

It seems rather removed from "table" and it just gives me such a chuckle whenever anyone is discussing the Mensa organization, which "provides a forum for intellectual exchange among members"... [Mensa Constitution]
