[Linganth] digital recorder and transcriber question

Dear all,
I know this question gets asked often on this list, and I generally read
the responses, but foolishly have not made a note of people's
suggestions. I have a computer budget I have to use up, and have around
$300 to spend on a digital recorder/transcriber. I'm wondering if
people have any suggestions for what I should buy, and I'd be especially
interested in any products that are specfically designed as
transcription units too. My research so far is pushing me toward the
Olympus DM-10 Digital Voice Recorder. A Mac enthusiast I know has
suggested an iPod with external mike, but I don't know if that is doable
(doesn't seem to be from my reading). Also, if anyone has any thoughts
on the Dragon Naturally Speaking softward, I'd appreciate that too.
Any suggestions would be welcome!
David
