I see that no one from the SLA Board has responded
yet to Galey's message. It now looks highly unlikely
that the meeting will take place in San Francisco.
>From what I've heard, many SLA members will not be
attending a meeting in Atlanta and there is some
interest in having something in SF or the Bay Area
during the regularly scheduled meeting time (see
e.g., Adam Hodges' recent post). Personally, I was
planning to go to San Francisco to visit friends
anyway and I will be there no matter what. I'd
certainly take part in any SLA event that would be
held in the area and would attend any linganth
panels that might be organized. If for some reason
the SLA can't organize anything for SF, there are
probably enough of us interested who could. It would
seem to make sense to coordinate our efforts, rather
than having individual panels making their own plans
separately.

I'll also voice my support for a separate linguistic
anthropology conference, in addition to the AAA. It
would make it much easier to hear about the work
that different people are doing.
