text on lang and identity?

Can anyone suggest a good undergrad text -- 20 pages or so -- on language and identity, and one on language and ideology? I'm looking for something like Mary Bucholtz and Kira Hall's piece in the Companion to Linguistic Anthropology, but pitched at undergrads who have little or no experience with academic writing (and no background in linguistics or anthropology). 

I'll post any responses to the list.
