TEMPORARY ONE-QUARTER POSITION IN LINGUISTIC ANTHROPOLOGY, UCSD, 2007

The University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Anthropology 
Department (http://anthro.ucsd.edu) announces a replacement position 
in linguistic anthropology for one 11-week quarter, either Winter or 
Spring 2007. The expected teaching load will be one undergraduate and 
one graduate course, or two undergraduate courses, on mutually 
agreeable topics in the anthropological study of language. Senior 
linguistic anthropologists who would like a one-quarter leave from 
their permanent institutions as well as junior scholars interested in 
a lecturer position are encouraged to apply. Ph.D. and excellent 
teaching record required. Course level will depend on experience of 
the applicant. In accordance with UC standard procedures, the salary 
paid to a Visiting appointee is at a negotiated annual rate based 
upon the individual's regular salary at his or her home institution 
and consistent with the service rendered.   For Lecturers, salaries 
are in accordance with UCSD academic pay scales.

Anthropologists at UCSD, together with colleagues in such departments 
as Ethnic Studies, Linguistics, Communications, and Sociology provide 
a recently expanded set of offerings, ranging from standard 
considerations of language, culture, and society to questions of 
language ideologies, multilingualism, pragmatics, cognition, and 
interaction. Existing area expertise includes Europe, Latin America, 
Australia, and Melanesia, and graduate student interest also includes 
Africa and Polynesia.
