"In the United States, most black children are already likely to understand
most kinds of English that they hear from whites. Presumably white people
have the intelligence to learn to understand the blacks. The Center for
Applied Linguistics may even be capable of learning that white ignorance is
a bigger obstacle to social justice than Black English is."*
