fieldwork as a sacra of the discipline

Dear Linganthers,
I'm looking for references to fieldwork as one of the "sacra" of the 
discipline of linguistics and/or anthropology. I'm especially interested 
in references that deconstruct the status of fieldwork in these 
disciplines but anything along these lines will probably be useful.
