Assistant Professor of French Linguistics

George Mason University, Department of Modern and Classical Languages
welcomes applications for a position as a tenure-track assistant  
professor
of French linguistics, beginning fall 2008. We are looking for  
candidates
able to teach language courses, as well as undergraduate and graduate
courses in French linguistics. Candidates must have expertise in at  
least
two of the following areas: sociolinguistics; linguistic ideologies;
language planning and policy; socio-politics of French in the world;
history of French; language and identity; translation; or second- 
language
acquisition/pedagogy. Candidates should demonstrate an active research
agenda with ability to work across disciplines, and a strong  
commitment to
excellence in teaching. Knowledge of teaching methodology and ability to
contribute to the coordination of a lower-level French language program
are also desirable. University-level teaching experience required. Ph.D.
must be in-hand at time of appointment. Native or near-native fluency in
French is necessary.

Faculty members in the department of modern and classical languages are
integrated into other interdisciplinary programs on campus such as
linguistics, cultural studies, women and gender studies, and film and
media studies. The French section offers major, minor, and master's  
degree
programs. The department also offers undergraduate and master's degree
programs in Spanish, minors in six other languages, and courses in four
additional languages. George Mason University, located near Washington,
