Textbooks in historical linguistics and archaeology?

I'm working on a syllabus for an undergraduate class that will examine  
both historical linguistics and archaeology.  Can anyone recommend a  
good textbook, edited volume, or case study that would be helpful for  
a mid-level undergraduate course?  Alternatively, an intro text to  
historical linguistics that covers topics of interest to  
anthropologists would also be helpful.
