Chair of the Department of Anthropology

Senior-level appointment, beginning July 1, 2014. Salary competitive.


The Department of Anthropology at the University of North Carolina at
Charlotte seeks an outstanding senior scholar as Department Chair.
Candidates must have an earned doctoral degree in Anthropology or related
field and an exemplary record of publication, teaching and service that
will support appointment at the rank of Full Professor in the Department of
Anthropology. The areas of research and teaching are open. Additional
required qualifications include evidence of the ability to develop a clear
vision for sustained growth in scholarly and academic programs within the
Department of Anthropology that enhances its visibility nationally and
internationally; the ability to work closely with the faculty to promote
the highest level of excellence in research, teaching, and service; the
ability to facilitate faculty efforts at obtaining external grant support;
and excellent communication skills. While formal administrative experience
is preferred, applications from candidates whose work experience has
prepared them to effectively perform the duties of chair are also highly
desirable.


The Anthropology Department offers a general and applied track for an MA
degree in Anthropology, an undergraduate major and minor, and is committed
to promoting and fostering diversity as a core value in the department and
College. The selected candidate will lead a growing multidisciplinary
department with a new graduate program (established in 2011) and a diverse
set of research interests and needs. He/she should have the ability to work
with interdisciplinary programs and centers, be a strong advocate for the
department at the College and University levels, and be able to perpetuate

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is a doctoral,
