Elm Academic Press is proud to announce the establishment of a new
journal—*Language,
Culture and History.* We will be focusing on the intersections between
linguistic anthropology, sociolinguistics, history, and related disciplines
that deal with the complex interactions between language, communities, and
time.

Possible approaches include:

--Work that takes a language-oriented approach to historical events,
particularly events that were the focus of important new socio-political
forms.

--Work that focuses on the contemporary construction of the historical past
by a range of communities

--Analyses of historical common texts by groups of authors

--Work that looks at the role of language in the development of political
power over time

The format will be an innovative mix of open access and traditional print
publishing. The current year of work will be available on line at the
Society for Linguistic Anthropology website,
http://linguisticanthropology.org. (Many thanks to the SLA Executive Board,
SLA President Bonnie Urcioli, and the SLA webpage editor Chad Nilep for
making this possible.) The print version will be published once a year and
will collect all the issues of the year. Individual issues will be
published in hard copy only in special cases. After the print volume
appears, e-versions of the full yearly volume, individual issues, and
individual articles will also be available for a modest price.

All issues will be themed issues with guest editors playing an important
part in the selection of articles and and editing process of each issue.
Potential guest editors should submit a 500 word abstract for the issue
along with 250 word abstracts for each of the suggested contributors. The
similarity between the AAA submission process and the process for
submitting to *Language, Culture and History* is intentional and designed
to lessen the gap between “great session” and “published.” There will also
be issues with pre-set themes and open calls. All issues and individual
articles will be vetted by peer reviewers at both the abstract and finished
manuscript stage. Articles should be written for an informed general
audience including undergraduates studying anthropology and linguistics.
All theoretical terms should be clearly defined and used in aid of
understanding specific ethnographical and historical examples. The
standard format will be a series of articles (usually 4 to 10) with
introductory material and commentary. Other formats are possible with the
permission of the journal. At some point, we also might establish a book
review section. Initial queries and submissions of issue and individual
abstracts should be sent to LanguageCultureHistory at gmail.com. Mark
submissions with Query, Abstract Submission, or Manuscript Submission with
a quick summary of topic in the subject line, e.g., *Abstract Submission:
Sapir and His Legacy.*
