Call for papers—please share!

We are organizing a panel for the 2016 AAA meetings in Minneapolis, MN,
November 16th-20th.

Working Title: Sound, Materiality, and Body

The theme of our panel is the intersection of sound and body. We are
interested in how people construct sound and how sound constructs people:
how is sound physically materialized in the body, ideologically
materialized through discourse, and affectively materialized through
embodied experience?

We are seeking participants whose work focuses on the phenomenological
experience of particular sounds and sound sequences as they materialize in
various social and cultural contexts. Relevant sounds include (but are not
limited to) those produced in language, bodily functions, non-human
entities, music, imagination, or experiences of absence of sound(s).

If this theme sounds (pun!) applicable to you please email Tyanna Slobe (
tyanna at ucla.edu) expressing interest as soon as possible. Please send an
abstract (250 words) to the same address by April 3rd. We will choose
abstracts by April 5th and submit the panel proposal by the April 15th
deadline.
