Dear colleagues,

We are seeking a few more participants for our 2017 AAA panel. The theme is
gender and sexual identities online and in other forms of digital media.

Panel organizers: Anna Bax and Simon Peters (University of California,
Santa Barbara)

We are broadly interested in the ways that both marginalized and hegemonic
gendered and sexual identities are constructed, interpreted, and circulated
on the internet, as well as in other forms of digital media (such as dating
apps or other forms of social media).

Possible paper topics include, but are not limited to:
- Gendered or sexualized forms or genres of digital/computer-mediated
discourse
- Digital spaces as a site of identity construction, solidarity-building,
or resistance for queer communities
- Online dating interactions
- Sex work and digital media
- Violent discourse or threats of violence, whether as part of the
construction of a particular identity or as threats against a particular
identity group
- The role of gender in the rise of fascist (aka "alt-right") discourse
online
- Online communities as a site for men and/or straight/cisgender people to
construct narratives of "reverse sexism" or "reverse discrimination" (as in
the Men's Rights Activist movement)
- The role of gender and/or sexuality in discourses of "political
correctness"
- and more!

If you are interested, please send an email to Anna Bax (bax AT
umail.ucsb.edu) by *April 3rd *with a description of your project*.
*Preliminary
abstracts (max 250 words) will need to be submitted to the same
address by *April
10th. *
