Please spread the word about this recently scheduled memorial reception. AAA has generously agreed to sponsor the event and provide refreshments, and we will have a lineup of speakers paying tribute, as well as some video footage of Jane.


In addition, AAA will be making all of Jane's publications in AAA journals open source for the next 6 months.

Please join us for memorial reception to honor the life and work of Jane H. Hill, who passed away on November 2, 2018. Foundational figure in linguistic anthropology, preeminent scholar, and beloved colleague, teacher, and mentor, Jane’s 50 year career included contributions to the fields of Uto-Aztecan, the anthropology of Mexico, bilingualism, Native North American languages, language endangerment and revitalization, white racist language, and language and political economy. Jane was Regents’ Professor Emerita of Anthropology at the University of Arizona, past president of the Society for Linguistic Anthropology (1993-1995), and past president of the American Anthropological Association (1997-1999). Speakers will pay tribute to her many contributions to the field of anthropology.
