Dear colleagues,

I am organizing a panel on "Gender and Sexuality in Discourses on Ethnic and/or Religious Minorities" at the 26th Lavender Languages and Linguistics conference on May 2-4, 2019 (https://lavlang26.wordpress.com/) in Gothenburg, Sweden. Below is the session's description. Please circulate widely!

Gender and sexuality in discourses on ethnic and/or religious minorities

This panel aims to examine the ways in which which discourses—be it in the media, popular culture, political speeches and communiqués, government/official statements, etc.—on ethnic and religious minorities are often framed by gender and sexuality. In part, the panel hopes to shed light on how processes of gendered racialization, racialized sexuality, racialized sexism, and/or sexualized racism are deployed in a variety of discourses on ethnoreligious minorities and the impact of such representations. In doing so, the panel seeks to better understand the intersection of race, gender, and sexuality in representations of ethnic and religious minorities. Papers examining counter-discourses in the public sphere are particularly welcome. Please contact the panel organizer at adi.bharat at postgrad.manchester.ac.uk<mailto:adi.bharat at postgrad.manchester.ac.uk> to propose a paper for this panel. Abstracts (of up to 250 words) should be submitted to the organizer by November 19, 2018.

All best wishes,
Adi
