[Linganth] [EXT] Re: [External] Re: suggestions on transcription software?

I transcribe a lot of material in English and Spanish and I like to use the
ELAN transcribing software <https://archive.mpi.nl/tla/elan/download>. It's
free and used quite widely by linguists. It took me a couple days to get
the hang of it, but since then it makes transcribing much easier and
faster. I use it for formal interviews as well as more informal/less
scripted conversations that involve multiple parties. I create different
tiers for translations to follow the original text, and I segment the audio
first into manageable chunks then the transcribing and translating process
goes by faster after that. My usual steps are to segment the speech so that
it's in shorter bits to transcribe, and then do the transcription after
that.
