has a job opening for a tenure-track medical anthropologist who does
research in the Americas. We are very open to applicants who also have

The Department of Anthropology at SUNY Geneseo (located 40 minutes from
downtown Rochester, NY) invites applications for a tenure-track position at
the rank of assistant professor. We seek a scholar with research expertise
in health, disease, illness, or medicine and a regional focus in the
Americas.

In addition to teaching courses that contribute to the department’s
major/minor in anthropology and interdisciplinary major/minor in
sociomedical sciences, the ideal candidate’s expertise will contribute to
one of the following interdisciplinary programs at the college: Native
American Studies, Sustainability Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies, Latin
American and Caribbean Studies, Black Studies, American Studies,
Linguistics.

Geneseo is a distinctive public liberal arts college that welcomes and
inspires students to develop their knowledge and skills to build a more
just world. We seek to hire a scholar with an active research agenda who is
also committed to undergraduate education and mentorship. In addition to
producing scholarship, this position requires a 3 x 3 teaching load,
student advising, and service to the department and the college. More

Required Qualifications

   -

   Applicants must have earned a doctorate, or international equivalent, in
   anthropology or a related field by the date of appointment (September 1,
   2023).
   -

   Research in medical anthropology (with a cultural or biocultural
   orientation) or a related field.
   -

   Active research agenda in the Americas (North America, Latin America or
   the Caribbean).
   -

   Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

Preferred Qualifications

   -

   A record of teaching excellence, especially in undergraduate courses in
   medical anthropology or related subjects.
   -

   Experience working with students on undergraduate research or other
   integrative and applied learning experiences.
