PLEASE DISTRIBUTE WIDELY (with apologies for cross-posting):
UCSB LINGUISTICS SNEAK PEEK GRADUATE RECRUITMENT EVENT TOWARD A DIVERSE AND
INCLUSIVE LINGUISTICS

On November 9, 2023, the Department of Linguistics at UC Santa Barbara will
offer a Zoom-based Sneak Peek event to support excellent graduate
applicants from underrepresented communities as they prepare for the
application deadline of November 27th.

The University of California recognizes the variety of personal
experiences, values and worldviews that arise from differences of culture
and circumstance. Such diversity in the UC student body is integral to the
University's achievement of excellence. Santa Barbara Sneak Peek is aimed
at graduate students who bring an understanding of the experiences of
groups historically underrepresented in higher education, including but not
limited to those who have been minoritized on the basis of race/ethnicity,
gender identity/expression, disability, and/or socioeconomic background. We
encourage participation from individuals who meet the eligibility criteria
for admission and represent cultural, linguistic, geographic, and
socioeconomic backgrounds not adequately represented in the graduate
student population. More information about our graduate programs can be
found here:
https://www.graddiv.ucsb.edu/graduate-programs/departments/linguistics and
here: https://linguistics.ucsb.edu/graduate

Participants in Santa Barbara Sneak Peek will learn about the UCSB
Linguistics graduate program, receive guidance on creating a strong
application for a graduate program in linguistics, and hear about
department members and academic and research opportunities currently
happening in our department.

If you are planning to apply to UCSB and meet the criteria discussed above,
please register to receive a Zoom link for the event on *Thursday, November
9, 2-5pm Pacific*. Registration is open until full; advance registration by
Wednesday, Nov. 8 is requested.
