Dear Cheryl,

I recommend Sandro Duranti's recent edited volume on "Rethinking Politeness
with Henri Bergson":
https://global.oup.com/academic/product/rethinking-politeness-with-henri-bergson-9780197637869?cc=us&lang=en&#

It has chapters by Duranti, Bergson, Mahalia Gayle, Judith Irvine, Aliyah
Morgenstern, Graham Jones, Terra Edwards, Kamala Russell, Keith Murphy,
Jason Throop, and Bill Hanks.

Beyond that, there are some good sources on IM-politeness (a great way to
approach politeness) mentioned in my encyclopedia article on "Obscenity and
Taboo words," here:
https://www.academia.edu/41573902/Obscenity_and_Taboo_Words_Encyclopedia_article_

And I highly recommend Laura Miller's Annual Review article on "Bad Mouths:
Taboo and Transgressive Language":
https://www.annualreviews.org/content/journals/10.1146/annurev-anthro-041420-112543

Good luck!!

Very best wishes,
Janet McIntosh
