of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University has an
opening for the position of postdoctoral researcher with expertise in
language and literacy as sociocultural practices, to work on two
inter-related research projects.  One project  examines the
kinds of strategies that Spanish-English bilingual children deploy
when translating for monolingual speakers in their lives outside of
school, and the kinds of strategies that they use for literacy tasks
in school.  The second project looks at how students deal with
the literacy demands of a progressive science curriculum, and how to
support children in dealing with those demands.  The
postdoctoral researcher will work with a research team to assist with
home and school observations, interviews and focus groups, data
analysis, writing, and research
presentations. </font></blockquote>

<blockquote type="cite" cite><font face="Times" size="+2">Candidates
should have a Ph.D. in education, linguistics, sociology,
anthropology or a related field, as well as experience doing
qualitative research. Fluency in Spanish and experience working in
Latino immigrant communities is highly desired. The position is
full-time for two years, with the possibility of renewal for a third
year.  Candidates without a Ph.D. will be
considered.</font></blockquote>
