Department of Anthropology seeks a social or cultural anthropologist at
the Assistant Professor level whose field of specialization is
<b><i>linguistic anthropology</i></b> (geographical area open) with
research interests in the political economy of language, including
language and power, language and gender, language and nationalism,
language rights and identity politics, and language and
globalization. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in anthropology
or be ABD with a reasonable expectation of completion by July 2001, and
demonstrate both a high level of research productivity and excellent
teaching skills. We are especially interested in candidates who will
complement the existing strengths of the Department, while also
contributing to its diversity. In particular, we are interested in
candidates whose work bridges two or more of the traditional subfields of
anthropology. Responsibilities include graduate and undergraduate
teaching as well as research. The appointment is
<b><i>tenure-track</i></b>, effective September 1, 2001. Applicants
