I want to second what Judy said about THE LINGUISTS—a very neocolonial type of hit and run salvage linguistics that can only be used with a great deal of commentary.  Almost unbelievably one of the linguists on-screen seems to equate ethnography with a one-night

Just a note on The Linguists, these fellows are doing a sort of “salvage” linguistics that makes me very uncomfortable, portrayed as the Great White Hope sort of figure in the film. I use it, but with critique and caveats. I also have a colleague who works
 with speakers of an endangered language in the Amazon basin – he indicates that local experience where “The Linguists” showed up was not exactly positive.<u></u><u></u></div>
