<br>
<div dir="auto">Dear Profesor Ana Celia Zentella,
<div><br>
</div>
<div>First of all, I appreciate you so much for your reply and encouragement. You know in China there isn't so many Scholars who study Latino questions and collect firsthand information in a way of participant observation. So what I can acquire for academic
support is limited in China. That's why I send email to you for an opportunity of studying what American Scholars are doing around the Latino/x topic and finding and doing in the next step my fieldwork during the stay in America.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>During Sep 2018 to Jan 2019, I was invited by UMASS-BOSTON as an visiting student to do my field work of my Master Thesis. At that time, I was lucky to make friends (o sea hermanos y hermanas) in Congregation lion of Judah in the South End of Boston City.
Under the trust and love of Latino Immigrants (Majority is from Puerto Rico and The Dominican Republic which shares the same island with Haiti), I could advance my fieldwork of Anthropology and find the relation between Latino's multi-identity with their Language
and Belief. I was impressed by their passion to this unitied ethnic group and the positive attitude to live better in the America. So I decided to come back keeping staying close to them and doing my fieldwork in a latino community another time to study their
Identity question as my topic of Doctoral Thesis.</div>
<div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Concerning about my futural 10 months fieldwork in USA. Theoretically, I want to dialog about ethnic boundary theory and constructivism. Like Fredrik Barth regards the ethnic as a social organization of culture difference, people self-choose their identity
based on the sense of belonging. Also including what Benedict Anderson says in his book of Imagined Communities that a nation could be seen as an imagined political community. As far as I think, Latino this word could also be constructed by a political motivation
to enhance the political influence based on the large latinos immigrants population regardless of their dozens of motherlands and different cultures. While, the common spanish language and its culture inside plus powerful American core value could unity them
too. In practice, I plan to do my participant observation in a latino community or organization, church, congregation etc as volunteer or others to do my favor to let Latinos community better and doing my research at the sametime.</div>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>so with all my respect, I'm wondering if you or other professors who can give me a favor of sending an invitation letter of university and introducing me to do volunteers in a Latino community. As I did my field work in Boston, so I wish to change anothe
place, that's why I ask for favor through this method. I'll be so appreciate for it if you can help me or just give me a clue.</div>
<div>Thanks a lot.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>With all my best wishs,</div>
<div><br>

Dear Professor. Zentella,<br>
<br>
I hope this email finds you well. This is Zhengyi Zhou (Please feel free to call me Nicolas), a first year doctoral student from Beijing Normal University (China), majoring in Anthropology. I am writing to apply for a 10 Months visiting Ph.D. student position
from Nov. 2024 to Sep. 2025. After one year of study, I will come back to Beijing Normal Universit to accomplish my Ph.D. degree.
<br>
<br>
My research interests have been focused on Latino immigrant and its culture, identity, social integration. As a student of Anthropology (Master and Doctor) and Spanish (undergraduate), I have received a series of courses in Anthropology, Sociology and Spanish
Language and Literature, and got excellent results in all of them. I completed my fieldwork for master's thesis in Boston, MA, which was about a Latino congregation and the construction of its members’ multiple identity, the majority people is from Puerto
Rico and Republic of Dominicana. I also participated in some related research projects, which equipped me with the ability to write project applications and research reports. (Pls Check my CV and Abstract of Papers in the attachment).<br>
<br>
My own research has focused on Latino’s Identity. For example, My master’s thesis is about the Latino’s identity on the base of symbolical and sacred construction. I believe our shared interest in Latino’s culture would lead to fruitful collaboration and study,<br>
<br>
I would be honored to have the opportunity to work with you and contribute to the exciting research being done at your team. Please find my CV and research proposal attached. I look forward to your reply and welcome further discussion.<br>
<br>
Thank you for your consideration.<br>
<br>
Best regards,<br>
