<div dir="ltr">Dear LingAnth List,<div><br></div><div>I'm writing to announce the publication of a new textbook, <i>Language and Social Issues: An Investigator's Toolkit</i>, written by myself, Mary-Caitlyn Valentinsson, Shiloh Drake, and Amy Fountain. Designed for novice students exploring language from a variety of disciplinary lenses, the book starts with chapters that attune readers to the fascinating elements of language around them in their everyday lives, provides a broad overview of linguistics and the structural components of language, and reviews key data collection methodologies and ethics issues in research. It then turns to a chapter-by-chapter discussion of the intersections between language and various sociocultural topics, such as language/cultural contact, socialization and development, AI/technology, education, the labor market, gender/sexuality, and geopolitical conflicts. We have a range of group and individual activities at the end of each chapter to support classroom engagement, and (if I can forego professional humility for a moment), is also very funny and engaging in a way students will definitely enjoy :)</div><div><br></div><div>While it definitely leans more towards (socio)linguistics, it would be a great resource for linguistic anthropology courses as well! </div><div><br></div><div>Please check it out and consider adopting it for your summer/fall 2026 courses.</div><div><br></div><div><a href="https://www.cambridge.org/highereducation/books/language-and-social-issues/5C1D0C2F61B4D0ADA69AE7024EF1E1E2">https://www.cambridge.org/highereducation/books/language-and-social-issues/5C1D0C2F61B4D0ADA69AE7024EF1E1E2</a></div><div><br></div><div>Thanks,</div><div>MCV</div></div>
