Subject: New Puzzles and Games!

Welcome back to Fun dDrive Friday! This is now the third Fun Friday,
the day we alter The LINGUIST List homepage to showcase Fund Drive
features to encourage your donations.

This week we have more than ever to introduce to you. Our popular
Linguist of the Day is now featuring Larry Hyman, but be sure to
revisit the other interesting submissions released earlier this week
from Walt Wolfram and Raymond Boyd.

This week give a warm welcome (or a coldhearted boo!) to the newest
addition to our LINGUIST Directory of Linguists, Degenerative Gramma!
She recently submitted her new book to Reviews and has linked to her
personal page from our public Directory. Read what one of our esteemed
reviewers had to say about D.G.'s new tome, "Every Rule in Every
Language: How to Better Your Native Speaker Instincts":

The third issue of our comic book movie (The Amazing Adventures of
C-Commander and The Disambiguator) will be released this Friday! Tune
in to see what happens next! Missed earlier issues? The previous
movies can be viewed via links found on the same page.

This is a very special Fund Drive Year to us here at the LINGUIST
List. According to the Chinese calendar, this Fund Drive is in the
Year of the Pig. Pigs have been the longtime mascot of our
organization. The powers of our Linguistic Superheroes, C-Commander
and the Disambiguator, were bestowed upon them by the power of the
Super Pig. In honor of this fateful year, we are holding a special
drawing in our Year of the Pig Contest! If you were born in any Year
of the Pig (1983, 1971, 1959, 1947, 1935, 1923, or 1911), simply email
your name and birth date to Ania Kubisz at ania at linguistlist.org.

We will be giving away four copies of Phonetic and Phonological
Studies on Tianjin Dialect Beijing: Beijing Lu, Jilun (ed.) 2004 as
prizes to four lucky people determined by a blind drawing.

Don't forget or revisit our games and puzzles. Submit an acrostic for
the poetry contest or try our new, more difficult Linguko puzzles.

As you play the games and read our features, please remember that the
services we offer all year long are free, but maintaining the site
isn't! Please use our services exhaustively and play our fun games
over the weekend - and please donate! A warm thanks to all have
already donated. We appreciate your help in keeping our organization
up and running!

Sincerely,
-The LINGUIST Crew

This Year the LINGUIST List hopes to raise $55,000. This money will go
to help keep the List running by supporting all of our Student Editors
for the coming year.

There are many ways to donate to LINGUIST!

You can donate right now using our secure credit card form.

Alternatively you can also pledge right now and pay later.

For all information on donating and pledging, including information on
how to donate by check, money order, or wire transfer, please visit:

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University
and as such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is
a registered 501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is
38-6005986. These donations can be offset against your federal and
sometimes your state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more
information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will
match any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this
entails your contacting your human resources department and sending us
a form that the EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your
employer. This is generally a simple administrative procedure that
doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without costing you an
extra penny. Please take a moment to check if your company operates
such a program.

Note: the donors' names are appended to every fund drive message sent
to the main list. You can also see the list of all donors by clicking
here:

Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
