The Atlas of Languages

It was only recently that I came across the following publication, so
some of you may have missed it too:

The Atlas of Languages : The Origin and Development of Languages
Throughout the World.
Ed. by Bernard Comrie, Maria Polinsky, Stephen Matthews. 1996; ISBN:
0816033889.

There is now also a Dutch and a German translation. This is a richly
illustrated volume with little new information for linguists, but I
think it would be a nice Christmas present for someone who always
wondered what linguists (let alone typologists) do.
