Sonderforschungsbereich 'Kulturen des Performativen'

Applications are invited for a research position in a project on
grammaticalization, which is part of the interdisciplinary research centre
'Kulturen des Performativen' at the FU Berlin. The project will
investigate the relationship between competence and performance as well as
necessary and sufficient conditions for the genesis and development of
grammar. The position is available for three years, commencing this year.
Candidates should hold a M.A. degree in linguistics and/or English and
expertise in one or more of the following would be advantageous:
historical linguistics (especially grammaticalization), structure of
English and other languages, typology, syntactic theory, semantic theory.
The ability to work collaboratively and to meet deadlines is essential. A
good working knowledge of German would also be an advantage.

The successful candidate is expected to write a doctoral dissertation on
some aspect of grammaticalization within the thematic scope of the
project.

The salary is in accordance with Grade IIa of the German public service
pay scale (age related), based on 18.25 hours per week.
