Workshop on Caucasian languages

May 13-15, 2011

The Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany,
will host a workshop on the Caucasian languages on May 13-15, 2011 (Fri-Sun).

Those interested in participating are asked to submit abstracts for papers lasting 20 minutes (plus 10 minutes discussion). Papers may relate to any language or languages spoken in the Caucasus. We encourage submitting papers on phonetics and phonology and on areal linguistics, although all aspects of languages of the Caucasus are sought.

The languages of the conference will be English and Russian, and abstracts may be submitted in either language. Abstracts should be sent to Zaira Khalilova or Diana Forker (for addresses, see below), preferably as e-mail attachments in .pdf format; electronic versions in .doc or .rtf format must use Unicode for any special symbols; hard copies may also be sent by regular mail. Abstracts should not exceed two pages (including references and examples) and should include the title of the presentation, the name of the presenter(s), and coordinates for one presenter (e-mail and postal address) to be used for correspondence with the conference organizers.

The deadline for submitting abstracts is October 1, 2010. Those submitting abstracts will be informed of the program committee's decision by November 2, 2010.

The workshop will have slots only for thirty participants. Since the workshop has limited slots for participation, the committee will select the best abstracts for the presentation at the workshop.

Additionally some travel funding may be available for scholars from the Caucasus and Russia whose abstracts are accepted.

Questions should be addressed to one of the conference organizers, preferably by e-mail to "cauc2011 at eva.mpg.de", to Zaira Khalilova and Diana Forker (Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, Deutscher Platz 6, D-04103 Leipzig, Germany)

The web site of the conference is under construction.
