Dear Dan,
the book ed. by G.Diewald & E. Smirnova,”Linguistic realization of evidentiality in Europ. Lgs”;de Gruyter 2010 ( I’m reviewing the vol. for “LT”) contains many contributions dealing with this problem. Especially have a look at H.Coskun, Embedding indirective (evidential) utterances in Turk., and M.Schenner, Embedded evidentials in Germ.
Best,
Paolo

Subject: Evidentials

Does anyone have evidence of evidentials appearing in subordinate clauses? If so, are they restricted to specific clause types? I know that it is thought by many that evidentials occur only on main clauses for semantic/pragmatic reasons, but I just wanted to check to see if there are counterexamples to this.

Dan
