Dear Silvia,

I have some expertise on Sinhala and )quite limited) on the Vedda language; and I have a few colleagues who are also competent in the field; so I would be glad to have a look at the materials and possibly to help with that.

All the best

Leonid Kulikov

Subject: [Lingtyp] The work of the late Philip Baker

Dear Lingtypers,

Philip Baker, formerly of SOAS, and who had retired to Sri Lanka where he was running his Battlebridge publishing operation, has left behind work described as follows by a local friend:

He was working on a research based project in Vedda language which is a language of a small indigenous community. Since it was partially based on Sinhala language which is my native language, I was helping for the translations when we visit a teacher who is an expert in Vedda language and also from the same community.

It is unclear how far advanced the work was. Is there anyone who has sufficient expertise in these varieties and who would be willing to look at the materials to see if posthumous publication could be possible?

Regards,

Silvia Kouwenberg
