Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Language Acquisition, Department of
Linguistics, UC Santa Barbara

The Linguistics Department of the University of California, Santa Barbara
seeks to hire a specialist in children’s language acquisition. The
appointment will be a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor
level, effective July 1, 2018. The ideal candidate will have primary
expertise in first language acquisition grounded in empirical linguistic
research on any language(s). The specific area of specialization is open.
The ability to contextualize the process of first language acquisition with
respect to the discourse functional theoretical orientation of the
department is an important priority. We especially encourage applicants
with expertise in multiple methodologies, which may include longitudinal,
experimental, field and/or ethnographic approaches, and the ability to
contribute to important departmental foci, such as corpus linguistics,
understudied languages, and/or language socialization. The candidate should
have the potential to link the theoretical implications of their research
to other subdisciplines in linguistics, and to interact with colleagues and
students across disciplinary boundaries at UCSB. Candidates must have
demonstrated excellence in teaching and will be expected to teach a range
of graduate and undergraduate courses in language acquisition and general
linguistics and to contribute to the department's undergraduate major in
Linguistics as well as the minor in Speech-Language Sciences and Disorders.
