Below you'll find information about the Australian Linguistics<br>
Institute to be held in Brisbane in early July 2006. This ALI will<br>
interest members of this list particularly because it includes<br>
courses on NonPamaNyungan languages of Northern Australia by Nicholas<br>
Evans (Melbourne University), and Understanding Typological<br>
Distribution by Balthasar Bickel (University of Leipzig). However see<br>
the full course listing below - ALI has a focus on language and<br>
cognition, and there's a lot here to meet the wide range of interests<br>
that ALT members have.<br>

ALI 2006 is a selection of 12 short intensive courses presented by<br>
world experts in their fields. It's a unique opportunity for graduate<br>
students, advanced undergraduates, professional linguists, and<br>
language professionals to upgrade their knowledge and skills in key<br>
areas of linguistics.<br>
<br>
Many courses in ALI 2006 are on the theme 'Language and Cognition',<br>
while others focus on language typology, acquisition, and aspects of<br>
linguistic theory.<br>

Date: 10-14 July 2006<br>
Registration Deadline: there is no general registration deadline,<br>
you can register up to the start of ALI.<br>

Each course consists of five 90 minute sessions, running Monday<br>
through Friday. Three sets of courses will be running in parallel, so<br>
participants can attend a maximum of four courses. Confirmed topics<br>
