In line with NTU's mission to become a world-class research-led university, the new division places strong emphasis on cutting-edge research and international publications. With multilingualism as a central theme, research in the division is geared towards a deepening of our understanding of multilingualism through empirical studies of topics such as language description and documentation, language contact, loanword phonology, machine translation, language maintenance and shift, and multilingual language processing and acquisition. The appointees will also be expected to offer electives in one or more areas of specialisation. At the current stage of the programme, the Division seeks applicants interested in multilingualism from all fields, including but not limited to topics such as bilingual cognition, language contact, corpus linguistics, typology of Asian languages and historical linguistics. A research background in languages spoken in the region is highly desirable.</font></font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><font size="3"><font face="Calibri">In addition to teaching at the undergraduate level, successful applicants will be expected to contribute to postgraduate-level teaching and supervision, and be active in research and publication. Appointees should complement existing strengths in the Division and also add to those strengths in new and substantive ways. For appointments at the Associate Professorship level, applicants should possess very high standing in their fields of specialisation, as well as extensive experience in administration, teaching and research.</font></font></p>
