<div><br></div><div>1. Positions: 2 full-time faculty staff positions</div><div><br></div><div>2. Rank: Applications are invited for a position at either of the following ranks:</div><div>a) Associate Professor with tenure</div>

<div>b) Assistant Professor with a five-year limited term appointement</div><div>Note that this position is a tenure-track position. The appointee would be eligible to apply for a tenured Associate Professor position after completing two years of service.</div>

<div><br></div><div>3. Qualifications:</div><div>(a) The applicant must have demonstrated expertise in any of the following areas: linguistics, cultural anthropology, history, or area studies of regions in Asia (excluding Japan) or Africa. Applicants with expertise in linguistics or cultural anthropology are preferred.</div>

<div>(b) Applicants must already have received, or will have received a doctorate by the date of appointment.</div><div>(c) Applicants must have an excellent research program and a demonstrated ability to plan and lead creative, cutting-edge joint research projects.</div>

<div>(d) Applicants must have sufficient proficiency in Japanese for administrative duties.</div><div><br></div><div>4. Appointment to begin April 1, 2013:</div><div> The appointment may, however, start at a later date if there are reasonable grounds for a delay.</div>
